IIIF

The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) defines universal standards for describing and delivering images over the web.

Almost all of the digital resources you find in Alvin can be used and shared without restrictions. However, be aware that some of the more modern materials may be copyrighted. The licensing label of each record states the rights that apply.

IIIF Image API

The IIIF Image API specifies a web service that returns an image in response to a standard HTTP or HTTPS request. The URI can specify the region, size, rotation, quality, and format of the requested image. This API was created to facilitate the systematic reuse of image resources in digital image archives maintained by cultural heritage organisations.

Alvin supports IIIF Image Api, version 3.0.

An IIIF manifest is the package that contains all the information related to a particular digital object, including the image itself and metadata.
